O’HIS, Rotary club conduct free surgery for 700 pensioners in Osun

The Osun health insurance scheme, O’HIS, in collaboration with Rotary international has conducted free surgery and provided free medical care for not fewer than 700 pensioners in the state.

Speaking at the flag off event at the state hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, on Tuesday, the O’HIS Executive Secretary, Dr. Rasaq Akindele, stressed that collaboration with Rotary international was as a result of similar goals shared between the two organizations.

Akindele further added that the organizations initially intended to treat 300 beneficiaries but eventually attended to not fewer than 700 beneficiaries who are mainly pensioners, free of charge.

Akindele said, “we have collaboration with Rotary international that is hosted by Rotary club of Osogbo GRA, and because they have similar goals as our Governor, we collaborated that we are going to provide free surgical services and medical services for the in Osun State.

“We intended to attend to about 300 people but I’ll tell you by now we have answered over 700 people and they are not going to pay a dime for this.”

Akindele further urged the wealthy people in the state to emulate the Governor in enrolling more people into health insurance scheme.

He added, “I want to plead with people that are well to do in the state that instead of spending money on frivolous things let’s us take que from what the Governor is doing, let us try and enroll people into this scheme.”

In his address the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, revealed that his administration has enrolled not fewer than 23,000 pensioners, who are currently receiving free healthcare services.

Adeleke said “Recently, we gave the directive to enroll all pensioners in the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS) FREE OF CHARGE, the first of its kind in this country.

“I am happy to tell you that the 23,000 pensioners in the state have started receiving free healthcare services throughout the state from 1st February this year. OHIS has reported to me the smooth take off and positive response of these pensioners.”
