4 die, 2 rescue as building collapse

Four persons were feared dead while two male adults rescued alive when a building collapsed at 13, Wilson Mba Street Arowojobe Estate Maryland, Lagos State.

This was contained in a preliminary report given by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu and made available to newsmen in the early hours of Thursday, 25, July.

Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that all the affected men were site workers while the rescued persons are currently receiving pre-hospital care.

However, in an updated report by LASEMA at 10:12am, one more dead body was recovered from the rubble.

The earlier report read, “The Agency responded to the above incident and discovered that a set of three terraces under construction had collapsed

“Search and rescue operations began immediately. 3 adult males were recovered dead, 2 male adults were rescued alive, and 1 adult male trapped under the rubble was rescued alive by the LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire service.

“All 6 men were site workers. They are receiving pre hospital care on location while SEHMU has been contacted for the remains of the 3 fatalities.

“A combined team of agency personnel, Fire service and Nigeria Police are working at the scene.

“Lasema’s excavator has been deployed to accelerate the search and rescue operations.”
