The group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, has reportedly died.

According to reports, Wigwe passed away after a helicopter crashed in California, close to the Nevada border in the United States of America.

There are rumors that his kid and wife were also passengers in the tragic chopper.According to the New York Times, as of Saturday morning, the authorities had not found any survivors.

The Eurocopter EC130 helicopter crashed near Nipton, California, an unincorporated village located in eastern San Bernardino County about 60 miles south of Las Vegas, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The crash occurred at roughly 10 p.m. local time.It was unclear on Saturday morning where the helicopter departed from and where it was headed.

Efforts to get comments on the development from Access Holdings proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

The Head of Media Relations at Access Holdings, Kunle Aderinokun, and some members of the media team did not take their calls or respond to messages.

However, Rivers State Government has confirmed the development.Wigwe hailed from Rivers State.When contacted by one of our correspondent, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, confirmed the incident, describing it as shocking.

Johnson, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone on Saturday night, described the development as a big loss.

“His (Wigwe’s) death is confirmed. It is a big loss to everry sector. And not just himself, with his wife and son. It is very painful, ” the commissioner said.

Johnson said the state government would issue an official statement later.
