The body of a young man, reportedly from Gombe State, was discovered in Zaria on Saturday morning with deep cuts near the busy PZ area in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
It was alleged that the deceased and his alleged killers were in Zaria, hoping to be recruited into the Nigerian Army.
However, the Public Relations Officer at the Army Depot responded to our inquiry, saying: “Please note that we are aware of the incident where a civilian was robbed and killed around PZ.
The Zaria Divisional Police is handling this matter. You can contact them for further information.”
A source, who wished to remain anonymous, told journalists that the young man was allegedly “hacked to death” by his colleagues, who withdrew N800,000 from his account.
“The deceased’s lifeless body had knife cuts. It was found on Saturday morning around the PZ area in Sabon Gari Local Government Area,” the source said.
The source claimed that the deceased came from Gombe State and had told his friends that his parents had sent about N1 million into his account.
On Friday, he even gave his ATM card and password to one of his friends to withdraw N10,000 and buy food for them.
The source suspected that the friends were behind the killing because they knew he had money and had access to his ATM password.
The corpse was taken to a medical facility in Zaria for examination.
According to the source, although they could not be recruited into the Army, the young men remained in Zaria and continued to cause trouble.
The authorities chased them away from the PZ area and they relocated to the polo ground, where they found refuge and continued to disturb the neighboring community.
