JUST IN: Edo deputy governor, Philip Shaibu impeached

by admin

The State House of Assembly during plenary on Monday, impeached Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu

The former deputy governor was the subject of an impeachment petition, which was investigated by a seven-member panel including Justice S.A. Omonua, a retired judge.

The panel’s findings states that the complainant did not provide enough evidence to support Shaibu’s alleged perjury.

However, the allegation of disclosing government official documents was found to be substantiated.
During the plenary session, 18 out of the 20 present members voted in support of the panel’s report, while one member dissented.

The impeachment move is believed to be the latest development in the rift between Shaibu and his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

There had been an uneasy calm between the deputy governor and his principal since last year when Shaibu declared his interest to join this year’s Edo governorship race.
