The Kano State Police Command has apprehended 82 suspects linked to various crimes between November 1 and November 14. The arrests target individuals involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, thuggery, phone snatching, and drug dealing.

In a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano, State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Kiyawa attributed the arrests to a new crime-fighting strategy employed by the command.

“The implementation of these strategies has yielded positive results, leading to a crackdown on criminal networks and a reduction in thuggery activities within Kano Metropolis,” he stated. “We have dismantled armed robbery syndicates near the Jigawa-Kano and Bauchi-Kano borders and prevented kidnapping incidents along the Kaduna-Kano and Katsina-Kano borders.”

Items recovered from the suspects included one AK-47 rifle, three locally made guns, 13 cutlasses, and 16 knives.

Speaking on behalf of State Commissioner of Police Salman Dogo, the PPRO stressed the command’s dedication to maintaining law and order. He noted that the command would persist in strengthening its strategies, focusing on community policing, strategic communication, and intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks.

Kiyawa also praised Governor Abba Yusuf for donating 78 patrol vehicles to the command, which will significantly enhance operational capacity and response time for the citizens of Kano State.
