Lagos court grants Emefiele bail

A Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has granted the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, a of N50 million bail

Justice Rahman Oshodi, on Friday, ruled on Emefiele’s bail application and gave him the condition of providing two sureties for the same amount.

Emefiele was arraigned on April 8 on a 23-count charge bordering on abuse of office and fraud to the tune of $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

The charges were brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC arraigned Emefiele alongside a second defendant, Henry Omoile.

The ruling on Emefiele’s bail application and his trial was previously scheduled for April 11 but was extended to April 12 after the Federal Government declared a public holiday on April 11.

The trial of the former CBN governor is set to follow after the ruling on the bail application.
