Makinde lacks power to crown new Olubadan — Ladoja

by admin

Sen. Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, has refuted allegations that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is purposefully postponing the installation of a new Olubadan.

Ladoja gave his remarks in an interview at his residence in Ibadan.

Ladoja highlighted that he and Governor Makinde get along well, pointing to the governor’s recent gift of sacks of rice and a huge cow as proof.

He also mentioned that Governor Makinde had called to wish him a happy Eid-el-Kabir, contrary to claims that the governor is targeting him.

The former governor clarified that it is not the governor’s role to crown a new Olubadan, but rather the responsibility of the people of Ibadanland.

According to Ladoja, the Oluwo of Ibadanland has the authority to crown a new monarch, and the coronation process will take place at Ile Ose-Meji before the governor presents the new Olubadan with the staff and instrument of office at Mapo.

Regarding the health condition of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ladoja said that in his opinion, the new monarch is fit for office, albeit at an advanced age.

He noted that Oba Olakulehin has been preparing for this role since 1983.
