Minister of Water Resources Tours Osun, Assesses Water Supply Challenges

by admin

In an effort to assess and improve water supply infrastructure, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engineer Joseph Utsev, has embarked on a three-day inspection tour across the South West Zone of Nigeria.

The minister’s tour aims to evaluate ongoing water projects and ensure that they meet the needs of local communities.

During the visit, Utsev visited Ilesha dam, Ife dam, and among others in Osun State on Thursday, the minister expressed concerns after discovering that the current water supply was insufficient for the treatment plant to adequately meet the community’s needs.

“In my visit to this area, I’ve noticed that the quantum of water needed for treatment to supply to the inhabitants is not enough,” said Engineer Utsev. “After making inquiries, I learned that a consultant has been engaged to assess this project and make recommendations on how we can ensure a sufficient supply of water for the treatment plant and, consequently, for our citizens.”

The minister emphasized that the recommendations from the consultant will be thoroughly reviewed upon his return to the office.

He stressed that his office will collaborate with the state’s Commissioner of Water Resources, the Director of Water Supply, the Director of Dams, and the consultant to identify the most effective and environmentally friendly solutions to address the water shortfall.

“Our priority is to find a solution that is not only cost-effective but also sustainable for the environment,” added Engineer Utsev. “This will ensure that we can provide an adequate quantity of treated water for the people within this facility.”

He noted that at the conclusion of his tour, he plans to deliver a comprehensive message to Nigerians, detailing his findings and the government’s next steps in improving water supply across the region.
