Olubadan to be buried according to Islamic rites Friday – Family

Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the late olubandan of Ibadanland, will be buried in accordance with Islamic traditions in his Aliiwo ancestral residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Friday.

FACTUAL NEWS NG reports that the late Oyo monarch, who passed away late on Thursday night at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the age of 81, followed a brief illness.

The funeral was announced in a statement by the Baba-Kekere Olubadan and his younger brother, Kola Balogun, in Ibadan.

“Oba Balogun would be buried according to Islamic rites at his Aliiwo ancestral home by 4 pm on Friday (today),” he declared. Although previously advised verbally, the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will receive official notification early this morning.

Recall that the king celebrated his second anniversary approximately seventy-two hours ago.

“The late monarch, who was 81 years old, was taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning after spending the entire Tuesday indoors due to a mild case of malaria. However, he was in good health on Monday, when he was visited by a few guests to wish him a happy second anniversary on that day.” the statement read.

The late Olubadan was a successful businessman, a former senator, a former member of the management team of Shell British Petroleum, a former university lecturer, a former candidate for governor of the defunct Nigeria People’s Party, and a PhD holder with British training.
