Osun govt holds summit for political stakeholder

..Oyewumi harps on govt, citizens collaboration

In a bid to bolster socio-economic development in the state, the Osun State government on Thursday held a Summit Of Political Stakeholders.

The summit which was organized by the Ministry of political affairs and Intergovernmental relations, was the first of its kind in the state.

Speaking at the event held at t Abere, Osun State, the commissioner of political affairs in the state, Dr. Biyi Odunlade, noted that the summit became a necessity in order to bring together political stakeholders to fashion a credible policies for socio-economic development.

He said, “the purpose of this political stakeholders is to therefore to engage the political elite towards the promotion and enhancement of a political culture of harmony and consensus building and fashioning credible policies for socio-economic development.

“Our political structure needs re-engineering, we must have robust
engagement and interface with the operators of our democracy we must embrace the culture and passion for development and eschew all the intrigues of partisan dictatorship.”

In the same vein, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Lere Oyewumi, called on government and the citizens to collaborate in order to achieve socio-economic development in the country.

Oyewumi, the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District of the state, stressed the government must be accountable, transparent and communicate with its citizens regularly.

His words, “for the state to experience proper development, there must be team work between the government and the people, and for teamwork to exist, the government must be transparent, accountable and must have the people’s trust.

“There must be proper communication between the government and the people, in order to make them feel carried along as this will also increase the level of trust they have in the government.”

The event also witnessed the presence of dignitaries including the Governor of the State, Ademola Adeleke, a former secretary to the state government, special advisers, and among others.
