Protest: Give Tinubu time to address Nation’s plight – Yoruba group urges youths

by admin

A socio-cultural group, Yoruba Progressive Forum (YPF), on Monday urged the youths to avoid protest and give President Bola Tinubu time to address and resolve the nation’s current plight.

Speaking to newsmen in Osogbo, the YPF National Coordinator, Lateef Olalekan, noted that Nigerians needed to understand the president and give him a chance to prove himself to the masses.

He added that peaceful protest is a legitimate right guaranteed by the constitution of Nigeria, urging them to consider the possibility of a hijack by hoodlums.

He urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, just as he charged the people to be hopeful and prayerful, assuring them that the President would provide safety nets to protect Nigerians worst hit by the economic reforms.

In his words, “Democracy presents freedom to protest, but in this situation. The hoodlums might hijack it. Nigerians must give President Tinubu time to solve Nigeria’s problem.

“Nigerian youth should have an independent mind and should reject any attempt to be used and dumped by the enemies of Nigeria.

“Let us work together as one to see a better Nigeria in no distant time.

“We must encourage the youth to shun violence because consequences of the protest might not be seen now but until when ventured into.

“Let us give the president time because one year is not enough to fix Nigeria’s problems. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu meant well for the people of the country, and we must give him time and support to accomplish his good plans to rebuild the country.”

He, therefore, urged organisers of the protest not to forget the destruction as well as loss of lives and property in previous demonstrations, especially the 2020 Endsars protest.
