Three operatives of the Osun Security Network Agency, know as Amotekun, have sustained various degrees of injuries after clashing with herdsmen in the State.

Distressed by the herders’ actions in Kajola village within the Atakunmosa East local government district, a few farmers reported them to Amotekun agents.

The armed ranchers fired shots at the Amotekun men when they were seen approaching.
There were injuries on both sides as Amotekun operators defended themselves.

Confirming the incident, the Osun Amotekun Corp Commander, Bashir Adewinbi that three of the operatives sustained injuries in gunfights with the herdsmen.

According to him: “Our men went to Kajola village to settle the rift between farmers and herders but when they went there, the herders attacked them and shot at them, our men had no other option than to reply to them.

“The Police were involved in the matter. We arrested one of them but we later released him. Those wounded are better now.”

Also, Spokesperson of the security outfit, Yusuf Idowu, told Daily Post on Thursday, that the operatives were attacked in the community which is located along the Osogbo/Ilesa Road.

He revealed that the incident occurred after some farmers had lodged complaints against herdsmen grazing cows on their farms in the area.

“We got complaints on Saturday from farmers in Kajola, a village along Osogbo/Ilesa road that herders were destroying their farms and we immediately deployed operatives to the area.

“Upon sighting approaching Amotekun men, the herdsmen who were armed, fired shots at them. But our men kept advancing towards them. When they saw that bullets could not stop those coming to arrest them, they signalled their cows to attack Amotekun men.

“In the ensuing melee, three of our men were injured. They are still on admission in the hospital as we speak. The herders fled into the bush and left their cows. Normalcy has returned to the area.”
