The University of Ibadan, Oyo State, has issued queries to two students for participating in thd recent protest against a fee hike on campus.

The students in question are Olamide Iyanuoluwa, a student in the Department of Institute of African Studies, and Aduwo Ayodele, a 200-level student in the Department of History.

The university management warned that failure to respond to the queries, along with supporting documents, if any, could result in their suspension.

,The memo, dated May 24, 2024, and signed by the institution’s Deputy Registrar (Students), T.I. Musa, conveyed this directive to the concerned students.

The incident stems from a protest held on May 13, where four individuals, including Olamide, Aduwo, Olorunfemi Adeyeye, and Nice Linus, were reportedly apprehended by officers of the Nigerian Army during the demonstration against the fee hike on campus.

In a memo delivered to the students on Monday, May 27, 2024, they were accused of disrupting the inauguration of the current Students’ Union administration with their protest, which the management labeled as disrespectful and gross misconduct.

The memo stated, “The Student Affairs Division has received a report from the office of the Vice-Chancellor proffered against you, that on Monday, May 13, 2024, you and three other students including an unknown person (Adeyeye Oluwafemi), disrupted the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected executives of the Students’ Union.”

“At this event, Olamide Gbadegesin Iyanuoluwa, Nice Linus, Adeyeye Oluwafemi (an unknown person), and Aduwo Ayodele carried placards with scandalous inscriptions against school fee increments.”

The university administration gave the students a 48-hour ultimatum to defend themselves and provide reasons why disciplinary action should not be taken against them.

Failure to respond within the stipulated period or deliberate dissemination of false information could result in the automatic suspension of their studentship.
